(1998-2004)
Jambangle emerged out of the anarchist jazz collective Birth of a Monday Night Orchestra (Ghent), founded by Mattias Laga, with a changing line-up. Karel Van Marcke wrote several compositions for them in 1998 and he became their musical leader in 2000.

That resulted in a series of concerts in 2001. The succes made way for a co-operation with the Jazzlab Series and Jambangle’s debut album Trinity Song (Baltic, 2002).

The record was met with critical acclaim, more specifically the Gil Evans tribute and the balanced arrangements were noted.

Next they worked on the multimedia show De Zotte Koning. Jambangle toured with Zappa meets Bond, featuring Tom Van Landuyt and Kyoko Baertsoen (Hooverphonic, Lunascape).

In 2003 the second cd Remembrance sees the light. Again, the album got excellent reviews.

(2004-2008)
Karel Van Marcke starts up his new band Chroma. He stays loyal to his composing style, but his love of Hermeto Pascoal and Egberto Gismonte comes to the foreground. Rhythm and extended melodies still form the backbone of his music.

Chroma becomes an instrumental quintet surrounded by several guest singers and guest musicians. David Linx, Geike Arnaert and Ingrid Weetjens (vocals), Peter Hertmans (guitar), Tuur Florizoone (accordeon) and Peter Schneider worked on the album Radea.

Radea is officially presented at the Blue Note Festival 2007, with Geike Arnaert as special guest. Reviewers refer enthusiastically to the strong compositions and the filmic character of the music. The cd is released worldwide by homerecords.be
